In 1965, the Beech company began to create an aircraft that was intended for use on local airlines. An analogue of the future serial aircraft airliner took off in July 1966. The new aircraft, designated the Beech Model99 Airliner, was primarily in a Queen Air configuration, but with a longer fuselage that could accommodate up to fifteen passengers and two crew members. The aircraft was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney PT6A20 theaters with a capacity of 550hp. Optionally, a cargo door and a movable partition were provided, which provided a different cargo and passenger layout. The first production aircraft was delivered on 02.05.1968/99/5 - at that time the Model 99 Executive (alternative version) was already ready, in general identical to the standard ModelXNUMX Airliner, but with different "corporate" interiors and seat layouts, etc.

Next came the ModelA99 and ModelB99, as well as the Executive variants. These aircraft were equipped with PT6A27 engines with a power of 680 hp. By 1976, demand for the Model99 had dropped, and by 1977 the production of aircraft had ceased, having produced a total for 64 operators (mostly American).

In 1979, Beech announced its intention to return the aircraft to the regional airline market. To make the certification process faster, the serial Model B99 was completely re-equipped, it was equipped with a modern power plant of two PT6A-36s. The aircraft, which was designated Model C99, took off on 20.06.1980/1980/XNUMX and production began in September XNUMX.

The car was certified in July 1981, the first deliveries started two or three days later. The C99 aircraft differs from the Model B99 in more powerful engines. The production of the C99 ended in 1986 - after the production of 76 aircraft.

In addition, Beech modified one Model99 into a PD280 for stability experiments in 1975.
